A tribute to TAUNTON Racecourse. Situated in the heart of the Somerset countryside with breathtaking views of the Blackwood Hills, Taunton races is Britain’s youngest National Hunt Racecourse, with around 14 races held throughout the year between November and April. |

The current Racecourse has emerged from a great tradition of racing in Somerset. Taunton Castle was the scene of some gory occasions under the reign of James II who was known to be a keen follower of the races. The racecourse lies just a few miles from the 12th Century Castle in the parish of Orchard Portman. |

Taunton racecourse has two stands that are called the Orchard Stand and the Paddock Stand which provide catering facilities and are used for meetings and conferences on days when racing is not taking place. |

Taunton races held the very first meeting on 21 September 1927. It was the last new racecourse to open in Great Britain until Great Leighs staged its first meeting in April 2008.

Course Description
National Hunt -
there are two kinds of racing on the one mile two furlong (2km) Taunton track. Steeplechases over seven, four foot six inch high fences and also the Hurdle Racing which is over seven, three foot three inch hurdles.
The course at Taunton is approximately one and a quarter miles long and its oval shape has created a number of sharp bends that lead to an uphill final flourish on the home straight. Due to its tight turns and tricky fences this course favours those horses that are sharp and agile. |

Non-Raceday Facilities
At Taunton racecourse we have more than 135 acres available with parking for more than a thousand cars and the events area can be used together with the accommodation in the Racecourse stands if required. Services available on site include a ‘club house’ building, ladies and gents toilet, toilets for the disabled, showers and washing facilities with hot and cold running water, electrical power points, site lighting, water points and chemical toilet disposal point.
