Redcar Racecourse situated in the coastal town of Redcar positioned just outside the town centre. The course is oval-shaped and perfectly flat. Redcar Racecourse was opened around 1870 - 1875, however before this, Redcar Races were held on the sands on the nearby Coatham beach.
The course is a left handed oval of just over 1m 4f with a relatively tight banked bends. There is also a 3f chute that joins the track where the top bend meets the straight - this provids a 1m straight course, apparently the only Straight Mile in England that is straight and level.
ABOUT THE TOWN
Did You Know that Redcar originated as a fishing town back in the 14th century.
Just recently the town has undergone some major investment, mainly along the sea front. If you do visit Redcar make sure you check out the views from the top of the REDCAR BEACON, the new verticle pier.
